THE INTERPORC SUSTAINABILITY COMMITTEE WILL REINFORCE THE ACTIONS OF THE SWINE SECTOR IN THE FIGHT AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE

The article talks about the Interporc sustainability committee, which created in 2018, works on a plan to reinforce the actions, redouble efforts and continue making progress in reducing the environmental impact of swine activity. The director of INTERPORC, Alberto Herranz, has detailed the 30% reductions in the use of water per kilo of meat produced, that of Greenhouse Gases, up to 47% of ammonia emissions per kilo of meat produced, or that of up to 38% of nitrous oxide emissions and that of 14% GHG emissions by the management of manure.
The Committee’s objective is the firm commitment of the pig sector to the environment by strengthening actions in the fight against climate change by evaluating progress and proposing measures to continue improving.
According to Mr. Herranz, the companies in the pig sector are committed to the fight against climate change by strengthening systems and procedures for managing environmental impacts, as well as information transparency in environmental matters.
He recalled that the farms and companies in the sector are making great efforts that, as you can see, are already bearing fruit.
It should be mentioned that INTERPORC is part of the Spanish Network of the United Nations Global Compact for the achievement of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and participates in SDG 13, Climate Action, with projects to reduce the carbon footprint , Greenhouse Gases and water footprint, and improve slurry management and boost renewable energy.
